Biografía

He was born in 1951 in Santander and grew up during the final decades of Franco’s dictatorship. He did not experience the Spanish Civil War directly, but he lived with many of its effects through family memory, post-war fear, silence, education, religion and everyday life under Francoism.

The interview focuses on my grandfather’s memories of life during Franco’s dictatorship and on the family memory of the Spanish Civil War and the post-war period. Although he did not live the Civil War directly, he grew up in a Spain still marked by its effects. His testimony helps explain how fear, silence, education, religion, censorship, work and the Transition to democracy shaped everyday life during and after Francoism.
